My Story
Hey! I'm Mushkah, a cook and food storyteller. I grew up in NYC in an Orthodox Jewish Family. At the age of 18, I entered the Kosher NYC food industry as a way to find my individualism in a homogenous minded community. Naturally, I gravitated toward food after years of watching my chef older sister, cook and indulge in all things food and wine. Soon after, I moved abroad to Jerusalem Israel and made it my home for seven years. I began to dabble in the food industry right after I snagged my dream balcony apartment, right in the middle of the famous Jerusalem farmers market " Shuk Mahne Yehuda". I spent most of my time in the Shuk, weather it was serving at the cozy trattoria called Topolino, drinking with friends in the underground bar scene of the market in the evening, or gallivanting amongst the freshest fish, produce, freshly roasted nuts etc. Soon after I met Yoav who became my boyfriend of 3 years.. His family held high regard in the culinary scene and his father opened the first espresso bar in the Shuk before anyone thought of combining the bustling stalls with euro-esque coffee shops. His older sister Moran was the pastry chef of their restaurant, after gaining a degree at the cordon bleu in Paris
Not long after Yoav and I fell in love, and my flirtations with food become a hot steamy love affair. Yoav taught me everything I was missing in my culinary knowledge, he taught me how to cook, and we worked together briefly in his family's pastry shop. His family essentially adopted me and even after we broke up we remained very close, spending holidays together and continuing to cook together. in 2016 I became a line cook at a local Italian Restaurant, doing new age, young and refreshing dishes on the classic Italian fare. There I spent a year learning more about food and playing my hand at the restaurant cooking game. During the pandemic I made the decision to leave Israel behind and start over in NYC near my family.
Here I am combining my love for food with sharing and engaging in a community of like minded people. Cooking up all original dishes, and photographing them with recipes available here. I cant wait to begin this amazing new journey here, in one of the most culturally rich cities in the world and my personal favorite.
